# Looking for a GP in Leiden city centre? We are accepting patients

Updated 30 Sept 2026

Registration: open for new patients · checked on 30 September 2026

**QUICK ANSWER**

Many practices in Leiden's old town have closed their lists or only take new patients from a few postcodes, on fixed phone days. HeyDoc **accepts new patients from all of Leiden, including the city centre** (postcodes 2311 and 2312). The practice is at Lammenschansweg 15B, 6 to 10 minutes by bike from the Pieterskerk, Breestraat or Haarlemmerstraat. Registration is free, you keep one fixed doctor, and you can send a message today.

- Postcodes 2311 and 2312 (the old town) are inside our service area, like every other Leiden neighbourhood and Leiderdorp.
- 6 min by bike from the Pieterskerk, 7 from Breestraat and Hooigracht, 10 from Haarlemmerstraat (measured with OpenStreetMap).
- In-person appointment usually the same day, always within 1 to 2 working days.
- Chat messages are answered the same working day, by the doctor, not by an assistant.
- Free parking right in front of the door, no permit needed: useful if you cannot park in the centre.
- Blood tests, ultrasound and ECG in-house, so no second trip to a lab.

## Why finding a GP in central Leiden is hard

The large practices in the old town are currently not taking anyone, or only people from a few postcodes who call on a fixed day. That is not unwillingness: the centre has many residents on a small area and the practices are full. If you have just moved to Leiden, or have been registered with a GP in another city for years, that often means one closed list after another.

A GP's service area is not defined by a district but by travel time. Lammenschans lies directly south of the canals; from our door you are in the Pieterswijk, on Breestraat or at Hooigracht within minutes. That is why we can simply accept city-centre residents.

## How far is it from the old town?

Travel times from Lammenschansweg 15B, measured with OpenStreetMap routes by bike and on foot:

From | Bike | Walk
--- | --- | ---
Pieterskerk, Rapenburg | 6 min | 16 min (1.2 km)
Breestraat, city hall | 7 min | 18 min (1.5 km)
Hooigracht, Herengracht, Levendaal | 7 to 9 min | 17 to 23 min
Haarlemmerstraat, Nieuwe Rijn | 9 to 10 min | 19 to 22 min
Leiden Lammenschans station | 6 min | 11 min
Leiden Centraal | 12 min | 28 min

- Buses 1, 3, 4 and 169 stop in front of the door.
- By car: free parking without a permit directly in front of the practice.

## What is different here

You do not call into a queue at 8 am. You send a message, with a photo if that helps, and the doctor reads it personally. Often that is enough. If not, we book an appointment at the practice straight away, usually the same day and otherwise within 1 to 2 working days. You tell your story once, to your own doctor, not first to an assistant and then again in the consulting room.

Consultations last at least 15 minutes. Blood tests, ultrasound and ECG are done in-house, so you do not cross town for every test.

## Just moved to Leiden?

Part of our new city-centre patients have just arrived from another city or another country. Things we see often: repeat medication left behind in the old country while the BSN takes weeks to arrive, allergy symptoms that only start after the move, a small wound that needs stitches, and plain stress, because moving is hard.

All of that is welcome here. If you do not have a BSN or Dutch health insurance yet, we first see you as a passing-by patient and convert it to a regular registration later. Your file stays with us.

## Switching from a practice in the centre

You may always change GP, without giving a reason and even if your current practice has not closed its list. This is how it works:

- Fill in the registration form: name, BSN, health insurer and contact details.
- Visit Lammenschansweg 15B once for identification, with a valid ID and insurance card.
- We request your file from your previous GP. You do not have to do anything for that.
- You usually get access to the patient portal within one working day and can send a message right away.

## Frequently asked

Do you accept patients from postcodes 2311 and 2312?

Yes. All of Leiden is inside our service area, including the old town and Stevenshof, plus Leiderdorp. If you live in Zoeterwoude or Voorschoten, get in touch: whether we can take you depends on the travel time to your address.

My GP in the centre has closed its list. Can I switch?

Yes. You may always change GP. You register with us and we request your file from your previous practice. A closed list applies to new patients of that practice, not to your right to leave.

Do I have to cycle to Lammenschansweg for every consultation?

No. Most things are handled by chat or video consultation. For a physical examination, blood test, ultrasound or ECG you come in; that is 6 to 10 minutes by bike from the centre.

Can I park at the practice?

Yes, for free and without a permit, directly in front of the door. For many city-centre residents that is easier than a practice in the old town.

What does registration cost?

Nothing. GP care is covered by Dutch basic insurance and does not count towards your deductible. Only if you are not insured in the Netherlands does the NZa passing-by tariff apply per consultation: in 2026 € 33.80 for a consultation of 5 to 20 minutes and € 67.60 for a longer one, plus € 3.44 if you are not covered by the Dutch Health Insurance Act.

Do you speak English?

Yes. All care is available in Dutch and English, by chat, video and at the practice.
