# Online GP in Leiden | HeyDoc — Chat & Video Consultations in English

Updated1 May 2026

English-speaking online GP access in Leiden via HeyDoc's secure patient portal, with in-person care at Lammenschansweg when needed.

# Online GP in Leiden — Direct Access, No Waiting Times

At HeyDoc you reach your own GP through chat or video, from your phone or laptop. No fifteen minutes on hold with a receptionist. No "we'll call you back this afternoon." You message your doctor, your doctor reads it during practice hours, and you usually have an answer within minutes.

When you need a physical examination, blood test, ultrasound or ECG, you come to the practice at Lammenschansweg 15B — usually within the same week.

## How online care works at HeyDoc

**Chat consultation.**Open the patient portal, describe your complaint, attach a photo if useful (skin issue, wound, eye), and your GP responds during office hours. For many issues this is enough — a prescription, advice, or a plan for follow-up.

**Video consultation.**For complaints where your GP wants to see you — sore throat, eye, skin, mental health — you book a 15-minute video call. Secure connection, from home or work.

**In-person.**For physical exams, lab work, ECG, ultrasound, minor procedures or anything that can't be done digitally, you visit the practice. No separate referral, no separate process — just part of your care.

You choose what fits, per visit. We figure it out together.

## What works online and what doesn't

**Suitable for chat or video:**

- Repeat prescriptions and medication questions
- Cold, cough, sore throat, mild flu symptoms
- Skin complaints where a photo helps
- Questions about test results
- Mental health (initial assessment, follow-up sessions)
- Contraception advice
- Travel medicine consultations
- Second opinions on previous visits

**Not suitable — come in person:**

- Sudden shortness of breath or chest pain (call 112)
- Acute abdominal pain requiring examination
- Wounds that may need stitches
- Anything requiring physical examination of joints, abdomen, heart or lungs
- Time-critical urgent issues

When in doubt, send a chat message. Your GP will tell you if online is enough or if you should come in.

## Why this works better than a traditional practice

A traditional Dutch GP practice usually works like this: you call the assistant in the morning, possibly get a callback appointment for the afternoon, and rarely see your GP the same day. For a simple repeat prescription or a question, this takes 24–48 hours. Need a physical exam? Often a week's wait.

At HeyDoc:

- **No gatekeeper.**You communicate directly with your GP.
- **No phone queue.**Messages are read during practice hours.
- **No wasted travel**for things that can be solved digitally.
- **Faster for urgent issues**— chat triage is faster than telephone.
- **Better for working professionals**— video consultation between meetings.
- **More accessible**— not everyone is comfortable on the phone, especially in a second language.

## Why this matters for internationals

For people new to the Dutch system, the standard "call the receptionist" model is genuinely difficult. The phone menu is in Dutch. Opening hours are restrictive. Explaining a medical complaint in a second language under time pressure is stressful.

Chat removes most of that. You write your question carefully, in clear English, with time to think. Your GP reads it, responds, and you have a written record to refer back to. For people whose primary healthcare experience is Kry, Livi, Babylon, Push Doctor or similar — HeyDoc feels familiar.

## Security and privacy

The patient portal and video connection are end-to-end secured. Traffic runs through Cloudflare and Google Cloud (Netherlands, EU region). Login requires mandatory two-factor authentication. HeyDoc is NEN 7510 certified — the Dutch standard for healthcare information security.

No BSN or names are passed to AI systems. AI assists your GP only with notes — all decisions remain with the doctor.

## Coverage

Online consultations are**fully covered**by your Dutch basic health insurance. Same as in-person consultations — no deductible (eigen risico) applies to GP care, no invoice to you.

International student insurances (AON, Aetna, Cigna, Allianz Care) and EHIC also cover GP care. We bill them directly in most cases.

## Frequently asked questions

**How fast do I get a chat response?**During practice hours, usually within minutes to an hour. During busy periods or for complex questions, slightly longer — you'll see an estimated response time.

**Can I message outside office hours?**You can send messages anytime, but responses come during office hours. For evenings, nights and weekends, call the regional out-of-hours GP service (**Huisartsenpost Limes**:[088 427 47 00](tel:+31884274700)) or HeyDoc's published evening/weekend line ([020 782 0153](tel:+31207820153)) as on[Contact](https://heydoc.nl/contact). Life-threatening emergency:**112**.

**Will I always get the same doctor?**Yes. One regular GP (Dr. Mirrezai), not a rotating pool. During holidays or absences there's a designated locum.

**Does this work if I'm not tech-savvy?**The portal is deliberately simple. If it really doesn't work for you, you can call and come in — both options remain available.

**What if I'm abroad temporarily?**For travel questions, repeat prescriptions and non-urgent issues, we can help via chat or video. For acute care abroad, use local emergency services and your travel insurance.

**Is this telemedicine like Mobidoctor?**Different model. Telemedicine services like Mobidoctor are one-off consultations with a random doctor. HeyDoc is your registered GP — same doctor, full medical record, lab and physical examination available, full integration with the Dutch healthcare system. We're a complete general practice that happens to work digitally first.
