English-Speaking GP in Leiden | HeyDoc — Chat, Video & In-Person

Looking for an English-speaking GP in Leiden? HeyDoc combines direct chat and video consultations with in-person care at Lammenschansweg. No waiting list for registration; GP care under Dutch basic insurance follows national rules.

English-Speaking GP in Leiden — Direct Care, No Waiting

HeyDoc is a modern general practice in Leiden offering English-speaking primary care. You chat or video-call directly with your own GP — no receptionist in between, no waiting on hold. When something needs to be examined in person, you come to the practice at Lammenschansweg 15B, a few minutes from Leiden Centraal.

GP care under the Dutch basic insurance package follows national rules (no eigen risico on standard GP consultations). Check your policy for international or student insurance.

Why expats and internationals choose HeyDoc

  • Direct contact with your GP. Chat or video consultation through our secure patient portal, with the same doctor every time.
  • No assistant gatekeeper. Most Dutch practices route you through a doktersassistent before you reach the GP. At HeyDoc, you message your doctor directly.
  • Responsive during practice hours. Many questions are handled the same day via chat or video when clinically appropriate.
  • In-house diagnostics. Blood tests, ECG, ultrasound (when indicated), and other diagnostics our GPs provide in practice — without unnecessary referral delays where primary-care diagnostics fit.
  • English-speaking team. Consultations can be fully in English with BIG-registered GPs.
  • Your records, 24/7. Access your full medical record any time via the patient portal — including consultations, prescriptions, and lab results.

Who can register

You can register as a patient if you live within roughly 15 minutes of Lammenschansweg 15B. This covers most of Leiden-Zuid, Roomburg, Meerburg, Cronesteyn, Professorenwijk, Tuinstadwijk, Vreewijk and parts of the city centre. If you're not sure whether your address qualifies, just ask — we'll check before you register.

We accept patients with:

  • Dutch basic health insurance (basisverzekering), like any GP practice
  • Aon Student Insurance (contracted provider — verify coverage with your insurer)
  • Other international policies — contact us before registration so we can check billing
  • EHIC for necessary care during temporary stays (rules depend on your situation)

How registration works

  1. Fill in the registration form on our website.
  2. Identify yourself once at the front desk with a valid ID and your insurance details.
  3. Receive access to the patient portal — usually within one working day.
  4. Start using HeyDoc — chat, video, or book an in-person appointment.

There is no introductory interview required. If you're transferring from another GP, we'll request your medical record from them once you're registered.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to speak Dutch to register? No. All consultations, the patient portal, and the registration process can be done entirely in English.

How fast can I get an appointment? Most non-urgent questions are answered the same day via chat. For in-person visits, we usually have availability within 1–3 days. Urgent issues are seen the same day.

Is HeyDoc covered by my insurance? Standard GP care is included in the Dutch basic insurance package (eigen risico does not apply to GP consultations in the usual way — see Rijksoverheid/your insurer for details). HeyDoc is a contracted provider for Aon Student Insurance; for other international insurers, ask us to confirm billing before your first visit.

Can I keep my GP if I move within Leiden? Yes, as long as you stay within our service area. If you move outside the 15-minute radius, you'll need to register with a closer practice (regulatory requirement, not our preference).

What if I need a specialist? In the Netherlands, GPs are the gatekeeper to specialist care. If you need a specialist, your HeyDoc GP will refer you and send the records directly. Without a GP referral, most insurers won't reimburse specialist visits.

Do you make house calls? Ask us if you think you need one — availability depends on clinical need, distance, and how care is organised that day.
